Christer Strömholm (1918-2002) was a Swedish photographer whose work is captivating in a challenging way. His portraits almost always contain a grotesque element, something that makes me stop and sit in a moment of revulsion before I let myself absorb the beauty of the full image.
He never ‘stole’ candid pictures and instead always had a relationship of some kind with the person or people he was photographing.
